Cannibal Sandwiches: A Milwaukee Recipe

What better way to finalize our Milwaukee series than to cook a very unique local recipe? After asking a few locals for suggestions, we settled on a recipe that was completely outside of our comfort zone, but that truly showcases how Wisconsin is way more than dairy and cheese curds. And that recipe is Cannibal Sandwiches.

Yes! You heard that right. Cannibal Sandwiches are a longtime Milwaukee tradition, an appetizer that is particularly popular during the holiday season. It’s simply made with a slice of rye, topped with a thick spread of fresh raw beef and sliced onions. It might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but we highly recommend that you at least give it a try.
