Mini Muffulettas

We have to thank Italian immigrants in New Orleans for the wonderful muffuletta sandwich. It is said to be originated in 1906 at Central Grocery on Decatur Street by owner Salvatore Lupo. Its unique flavor comes from its combination of deli meats and cheeses on a focaccia-like round bread.

If you’re looking for a quick and delicious recipe to celebrate Mardi Gras on February 13th, this is definitively it. While muffuletta is traditionally made with a sesame bread, we decided to use mini brioche rolls so you can easily take them to the office or your Mardi Gras party.

We also used Dell’ Alpe Italian Style Muffuletta Olive Salad, but you can also mix picked veggies with chopped green olives, olive oil, and vinegar. Here’s what you’ll need to assemble our version of these sandwiches:

Mini Muffulettas
  • Mini brioche rolls
  • Swiss cheese
  • Provolone cheese
  • Deli ham
  • Salami
  • Italian Style Muffuletta Olive Salad
